Week 1:

The first week has come to a close. I have been doing pretty well this week. It hasn't been hard to stay away from fast food and soda pop.  The hardest things to stay away from have been little junk food items such as peanut m&m's and birthday cake at work. I didn't eat too much of those either just a little stuff laying around.  Still something I have too get better at.  The other thing that has been a little difficult this week is exercise.  I have done a little bit.  I actually do quite a bit of walking at work but that isn't going to be sufficient for my goal.

I did do a few things this week though.  I have discovered a new exercise that helps to work your abs really well.  It is called a Plank basically you get down into a pushup and rest on your forearms and hold that position for as long as you can.  I did it a few times and it made my abs hurt like crazy.  I also did some normal pushups and I can tell you right now that I am much weaker than I had anticipated.  I guess that is something that I should have known though.

As for trying to eat healthier.  Well I have done pretty well at being healthier.  Every morning I make a smoothie with fresh berries a little milk and some protein powder.  This will keep me full until lunch time.  For lunch I have just purchased a loaf of wheat bread some low fat peanut butter and some sugar free jam that I can keep at work.  I will make myself a sandwich at lunch time and that helps me to stay full until I return home.  Dinner we have been doing a few different things.  We had pasta, salad and vegetables one night and some soup another. We also tried out a new recipe Biggest Loser Steak Fajitas they were really good and really healthy for you.  We purchased the biggest loser cook book last year and have only used it a few times so we are going to use that more often.

This next week is when stuff will start getting really difficult.  Lindsay and I will be moving and I start school.  I have an early morning class and two late classes after I get off of work.  I will have to keep focused so that I can keep working towards my goal.

Also,  I have decided that I will post how much weight I have lost every week at the very end in hopes of getting people to actually read my blog.  This week I am down 2 pounds.  So far so good.

So it begins

As the new year starts many people attempt to set new goals of things they want to do in the coming year.  I like many have attempted to set goals in previous years only to find my self at day 2 failing to complete the goals I have set.  I read recently that if you document what you are doing that it makes it easier to complete the goal you have set because you are able to hold your self more accountable.  I have also decided that this year I will only set one goal instead of trying to set multiple goals .  I hope that will make it easier for me to achieve. The hardest part of doing this is admitting to everyone my starting weight. I currently weigh 250 pounds.

The Goal:

My Goal this year is to lose 50 pounds by June 30th.  That gives me exactly 182 days to lose the weight. I have figured that out to .27 pounds per day or 2 pounds per week.

Activities:

To complete this goal I am going to have to do many different things and while I may come across new things to do over the next 6 months I am going to list a few things right now.
  • Exercise daily
  • Eat healthier
    • Eat 3 meals daily
  • Go to bed earlier and wake up earlier
  • Stop drinking soda
  • No more fast food 
I have decided to share this with everyone so that I am more motivated to succeed.  I hope to report every week that I have been successful in excersising and eating healthier.  I will share with you exercises that I have done that I feel are effective and helpful and also any healthy recipes that my wife and I try.
